There is currently a big uproar in South Africa about the Boer singer and songwriter, Steve Hofmeyr, who uses the South African equivalent to “nigger” (kaffir) in his latest song.1 Steve wrote the song in response to the continuing murders of Boers by blacks and the ANC youth leader’s leading of the singing of “Shoot the Boer” at their official rallies. The government, media, NGOs, and activists, all of whom largely ignore the murders and ANC behavior, are very offended that he would use the word.
This is the classic Marxist double standard on race in which we are to ignore the Boer genocide and the 35,000 black on white rapes per year in America, but we are to be very offended and horrified when anyone uses the word “nigger” or “kaffir.” The feelings of non-whites are to be esteemed more than the lives of our kinsmen. What a twisted and evil view! I’m not arguing in favor of using racially derogatory terms in everyday polite conversation; however, to elevate the use of such terms as a greater offense than murder or rape, simply because the words refer to a protected class of people, is beyond despicable.
The song in question is entitled “Ons Sal Dit Oorleef” (We Will Survive This) and is in Afrikaans, but a couple of the verses, including the offending one, are roughly translated below.2
My heart beats toktokkie where it breaks for my people
against the Khaki (English) cannons or the Nigger’s (Kaffir’s) dagger
It matters none where we now are heading
We will survive this ordeal …I raise my eyes to the mountains
ask where will my help arrive from?
Oh my Lord your words are woven within me…
We will survive this ordeal…
The word kaffir is currently bleeped out of the song, but he says he will sing the unedited version should the ANC youth leader win “his court case against a white interest group that argues Shoot the Boer should be banned.”3
