November 19, 2016, will go down in history as the day the former communist country of Poland was re-consecrated as a Christian nation. As Christians around the world celebrated Christ the King Sunday, it proved to be a particularly glorious Lord’s Day for the Polish nation, as churches around the country could actually celebrate the official recognition of Jesus Christ as King of Poland the day before. In a ceremony held in Krakow, Poland, bishops of the Polish Roman Catholic Church and right-wing president Andrzej Duda officially recognized Christ’s Lordship over Poland, invoking Him as King for guidance and mercy:
Immortal King of Ages Lord Jesus Christ, our God and Savior, bowing our heads before You, King of the Universe, we acknowledge Thy dominion over Poland, those living in our homeland and throughout the world. Wishing to worship the majesty of Thy power and glory, with great faith and love, we cry out: Rule us, Christ! . . .
We pledge to defend Your holy worship and preach Thy royal glory, Christ our King, we promise! We pledge to do Your will and protect the integrity of our consciences, Christ our King, we promise! We pledge to care for the sanctity of our families and the Christian education of children, Christ our King, we promise!
[T]he King of kings and Lord of Rulers! We entrust the Polish people and Polish leaders to you. Make them exercise their power fairly and in accordance with Your laws. … Rule us, Christ! Reign in our homeland and reign in every nation — for the greater glory of the Most Holy Trinity and the salvation of mankind.
I’ve previously written on the important inroads made by Christian nationalists in this great country. Now they’ve achieved the greatest end any nation can – glorifying Christ’s Lordship. Although as a Calvinist I have serious reservations concerning Roman Catholic theology, I find little wrong with the action taken by the Polish nation over the past weekend and now officially recognize them as a Christian nation. I pray and have faith that God will continue to bless the Polish people, as He has already begun to do. May they continue to go from strength to strength.
At the other end of Europe, in Ireland, there was another (albeit much less significant) development last week. In a formerly Christian nation where degeneracy has gained a firm upper-hand in the culture war, a solid Christian nationalist resistance movement has sprung to life. Although the Merrion Hotel in Dublin canceled the launch of the party scheduled for last Thursday, the founding of the party under the leadership of Justin Barrett has caught the attention of the mainstream media in Ireland. The party espouses what Poland has just achieved – the creation of a Catholic republic. The party’s platform is described as “nationalist, anti-abortion, anti-EU, anti-immigration”. As leader, Barrett has already come out in favour of racial profiling and a complete ban on Muslim immigration, while also openly advocating reversing “marriage equality”.
My prayer is that the National Party in Ireland, along with others across the continent, draws inspiration from the recent successes of Christian nationalists in Poland, so that the famous Bellocian saying may once again ring true:
Europe is the faith, and the faith is Europe.
