Some Jews at HBO recently announced that they’re developing a TV series called Confederate, which is set in modern America, but with a twist – slavery was never outlawed. Blacks and SJWs wasted no time in denouncing the proposed series as racist. One of the people behind #OscarsSoWhite then created the Twitter hashtag #NoConfederate to demand that “white people” stop cashing in on blacks’ pain and suffering.
Right. As if Hollywood Jews are going to do anything but use the series to further demonize white Americans. So far, though, HBO is sticking with its plans and says they’re going to go ahead with the show. And while #NoConfederate was one of the top tags on Twitter on July 30, it didn’t even trend at all on the next Sunday night when everyone was supposed to use it. So it looks like #NoConfederate has fizzled out before it even got off the ground.
Obviously, the movement is being run by a bunch of amateurs. Professionals know how to get a TV show shut down. And we’re not talking just any show, let alone one that isn’t even in production yet. We’re talking about the #5 rated show in the nation, back when the number of people watching TV was several multiples of what it is now. That’s right – a group of activists actually forced one of the three major networks to cancel one of the highest-rated shows on television, costing the network a minimum of tens of millions of dollars.
But these activists didn’t use lame slogans or whine about how unfair the network was being. No, they played hardball – they used physical intimidation, like showing up at the home of one of the stars of the show to make them an offer they couldn’t refuse. Along with bomb threats and death threats. And these activists weren’t blacks, or crazed left-wing white people. They were Jews. That’s right; Jews used threats of terrorism to get a TV show they didn’t like taken off the air.
For some strange reason, though, hardly anyone knows this story. It’s never talked about, while if white Christians had forced a network to cancel one of the top five TV shows in the country back in 1972 with threats of terrorism, everyone in America would know about it, and we’d still be hearing about it all the time, as an example of the hate and repression of the bad old days. But because it was Jews, the story has been sent down the memory hole.
The TV show was Bridget Loves Bernie. It was about a blonde Catholic girl from a very wealthy family who marries a Jewish cab driver/aspiring writer. (Bridget was played by Meredith Baxter, who decided she was gay a few years back, and is now a hideous bull dyke, but back then was very attractive.) When the show debuted, it was given a prime slot, sandwiched between Mary Tyler Moore and All in the Family, two of the top-rated TV shows of the era. The show was an instant hit, and was soon the fifth-most-watched show in America. That’s virtually unheard of for a brand new series – Seinfeld, for example, considered the most popular TV series ever, was #46 its first season and #42 its second season.
So Bridget Loves Bernie looked to have a long and extremely profitable future in TV. It was already making millions of dollars for CBS, and probably would’ve made them tens of millions more over the next few seasons. Had it reached the five-season mark, generating enough episodes to go into syndication, the total profits for CBS would probably have been north of $50 million in 1972 dollars (around $300 million today).
Yet CBS canceled it, walking away from an unbelievable amount of money. Why? Because Jews hated a show about a Jew marrying a Christian. After the show debuted, Jewish groups went on the warpath and demanded that it be canceled. The more respectable Jewish groups tried to pretend that their concern wasn’t about intermarriage between Jews and Gentiles being portrayed positively, but only about the “stereotyping” and “mocking” of both Judaism and Christianity. Which was complete nonsense. The issue was intermarriage, period. As a cover for their motivations, the Jewish groups tried to get Catholic and mainline Protestant groups to join the protest, but they weren’t bothered by the show.
Only Jews were angry. Even SJW Wikipedia doesn’t bother trying to pretend it was an ecumenical protest. Meredith Birney has said she used to get scores of hateful letters a week denouncing her for being in the show, and she said they all came from Jews.
When mere pressure didn’t work, Jews got serious. Meir Kahane and his Jewish Defense League stepped in, and the JDL wasn’t interested in any more “dialogue.” JDL members started making phone calls to CBS executives and people involved in the show’s production. They threatened to burn down their houses and kill them and their families if the show wasn’t shut down. A few of them actually found out where Meredith Baxter lived and showed up at her house to have a nice little chat. And these weren’t idle threats – the JDL was new at the time, but went on to become deadly. So CBS caved in, walking away from possibly hundreds of millions of dollars in profits.
As I mentioned earlier, virtually no one today even knows this story. Even worse, most of the few websites that write about it say it was canceled due to “angry letters” from both Catholics and Jews, which is a complete falsehood. Bridget Loves Bernie wasn’t canceled due to “angry letters” from both Christians and Jews. It was credible death threats from Jews, and only Jews, that got the show canceled.
Meanwhile, had it been Christians who used threats of arson and murder to get a show glorifying intermarriage shut down, we would never hear the end of it.
Let’s hope the #NoConfederate crowd sticks to hashtags and whining, and doesn’t get any ideas from the time Jews used terrorist threats to shut down Bridget Loves Bernie.
