We live during a time of profound Christian apathy and ambivalence. Ours is an age of rampant depravity that our ancestors could not have imagined, one that could only have been read about in the ancient histories of the declining Roman Empire. But for all the degeneracy that has become a normal experience in our lives, Christians seem quite content to go about their business as though nothing is wrong. There are two main reasons for this. The first is that many Christians are carried away with the spirit of the age, having become conformed to the image of the world. The second reason is the widespread acceptance of dispensational eschatology, with its emphasis on an imminent, any-minute rapture. These two factors have greatly contributed to the delinquency of the modern Church in confronting and opposing the evils of our day.
Apathetic Christians are immersed in pop culture and have largely internalized the messages sent through television, Hollywood movies, and college and professional sports. The results have been devastating when we observe changes in prevailing attitudes over the last several decades. At issue is what Daniel Patrick Moynihan once called “defining deviancy down,” in which harmful behaviors are gradually declared to be normal and mainstream. We have seen this progress throughout the past several decades in that many behaviors once considered abnormal, unhealthy, or sinful are now accepted as completely normal and healthy human experiences. Several decades ago the people of Western society were shocked by extramarital affairs,1 and now marriage has largely become a formality for many couples who marry after living together for years and already having children together.
Miscegenation was incredibly taboo and even prohibited by law in many cases until very recently, but now it is celebrated even by supposedly conservative Christian pastors. Within my own lifetime, sodomy has gone from universally taboo even amongst non-Christians, and at least officially prohibited by law, to being almost universally accepted as normal, healthy, and protected under the law from discrimination. We are now witnessing the ascendancy of transgenderism and a level of degeneracy our grandparents could never have imagined. We are told by the likes of London’s foreign and heathen mayor Sadiq Khan that terrorism is simply part of living in a large city.
People in contemporary Western society have become so accustomed to the news of violence that attacks fail to produce the outrage, disgust, and resolute action that they ought to elicit. It’s all too typical to see kitschy Twitter hashtags and flag-tinted Facebook profile pictures as the extent of popular sympathy. Many people believe that there is nothing that can be done to stem the tide of rampant violence aside from the confiscation of firearms from private owners when guns are involved. Perhaps a call to ban private ownership of knives and motor vehicles is on the horizon in light of recent attacks? Prayer, or at least the idea of prayer, has become a substitute for substantive action in the modern West. Many Christian pastors are passive or, in many cases, even resistant to policies that would curb actual violence or restrain degeneracy because policies, such as immigration restriction or deportation of dangerous immigrants, are perceived as unloving. These same pastors will call for their congregations to pray when violence strikes or when liberalism reaches yet another milestone of degeneracy and are left awestruck when trying to understand how the West has declined within their own lifetimes.
In addition to having misplaced priorities, many conservative Christians are carried away with the dispensationalist error concerning an imminent rapture. This popular error has led many otherwise well-intentioned Christians to give up on contemporary issues in geopolitics and cultural renewal. From this perspective, activism aimed at improving society is akin to polishing the brass on board the sinking Titanic. The expectation of many conservative Christians is that Christ will secretly rapture them at any moment, and this expectation increases as society becomes worse. Many dispensationalist Christians are concerned only with the geopolitics of Israel and the developments of the Middle East. The idea that Jesus will come to rapture Christians away from the problems of the world at any minute is a comforting opiate to many otherwise conservative Christians who acknowledge that the world is sprinting towards oblivion. The desire to simply be raptured out of the present world is escapism, and I believe that continued false predictions of the rapture will undermine the faith of the weak.
Christian apathy is manifested in the wake of terrorist attacks or other acts of violence in which it is common to hear ubiquitous exhortations to “pray for” the victims and their families. Prayer is certainly essential to the Christian life, and undoubtedly commendable in the wake of tragedy, but there is every reason to believe that these calls to prayer are simply sentimental expressions of an apostate culture that has abandoned all pretense of Christian belief. In the context of learned helplessness, many people attempt to find comfort by offering “thoughts and prayers” for the victims of tragedy. I am not arguing that prayer is irrelevant, ineffective, or unnecessary. As Christians we are called to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thess. 5:17) and to let our “requests by made known unto God” by “prayer and supplication” (Phil. 4:6). It is perfectly natural for Christians to cast this burden upon the Lord (1 Pet. 5:7), especially in light of the fact that there is little that individual Christians can do to improve our current situation. That being said, calls for prayer during these types of incidents are typically lazy excuses to sit around and do nothing. While Christians have been delinquent in taking appropriate action, they have compensated by engaging in the wrong kind of activism.
Christians throughout the West are compensating for their inaction by taking up activism in popular liberal causes. Christians jump at the chance to champion the cause of “social justice” and act almost indistinguishably from the secular population. Christians send their children to public secular schools, colleges, and universities where they will be indoctrinated in liberalism. Many Christians restrain their own fecundity in order to adopt children, often from non-white countries. Christians also feel compelled to send large sums of money out of the West to help alleviate poverty in third-world countries while poverty is rampant in Appalachia. Christians often support interventionist and pro-Zionist foreign policies that exacerbate problems in the Middle East and throughout the world. Christians repeatedly endorse and vote for candidates who fail to deliver on promises to promote Christian justice on social issues like abortion. The kind of activism prevalent within the church today ignores the obligations that we have to our families and kinsmen, as per 1 Timothy 5:8, and seeks to solve problems that are far beyond the capacity of individual Christians to address. Christians are called to care for orphans and widows, but there must be some limit to our obligations, because no one can possibly fulfill a universal burden.
There is a major problem with Christians throughout the West failing to do their Christian duty towards their own people. The contemporary church’s failure to understand and correctly apply Christian duties and priorities is at the heart of the misplaced activism and apathy of so many Christians today. What can a Christian do besides praying and watching passively as the world burns down around him? Aside from marrying and having children, if it is possible, there are a number of basic ways in which individual Christians can help save Western Civilization and restore Christendom. Make sure that your children are properly instructed in Christian truth and in the traditions of our European ancestors. Try to have a positive influence on local politics and try to foster relationships that benefit the local community.
There are already opportunities for right-wing activism. Identity Evropa is organized for the purposes of pro-white activism. It’s also possible to organize your own Alt Right meet-up for finding fellow pro-white right-wingers. Many on the Alt Right are not Christian, and need to hear the true Gospel message and the biblical teachings on ethnonationalism. Groups like Concerned Presbyterians on Facebook provide opportunities to spread the truth about the historic beliefs that Christians have held in the past. White, church-going evangelical Protestants were Donald Trump’s largest voting bloc. Meanwhile the Southern Baptist Convention has just condemned the Alt Right and ethnonationalism while fostering ethnic-based groups like the National African-American Fellowship, and the PCA has chosen an oriental SJW named Alexander Jun to moderate their own upcoming general assembly. These trends are indicative that there is a discernible and growing rift between the clergy and laymen of ostensibly conservative Protestant denominations.
While support for the candidacy of Donald Trump does not necessarily suggest sympathy for the Alt Right or Kinism, it suggests that many conservative Protestants responded to Trump’s platform of immigration restriction and deportation of illegal immigrants. Many of these conservative Protestants are decent people who might be open to discussing Kinism in light of their denominations’ apostasy from the principles of their founders. Try to tactfully introduce your friends and family members to Kinism and ethnonationalism. As our circumstances worsen the case for traditional nationalism will be more easily made. Christians need to spurn the apathetic spirit of the age and stand up for the well-being of our families, nations, and civilization. Let us not be like the men of Meroz who “came not to the help of the Lord” (Jdgs. 5:23). Likewise Christians must also reject the false activism of the spirit of the age which seeks to break down ethnic and racial distinctions, serving only to further the globalist agenda and hinder genuine social progress and Kingdom advancement.
