Corneliu Zelea Codreanu (1899-1938) was a Romanian patriot, ardent Christian nationalist, and determined opponent of Jewish communism. Unlike some of the other anti-Marxist reactionary movements of the early twentieth century, Codreanu’s Iron Guard considered Christianity to be foundational to its ideology. In 1936, he wrote the book For My Legionaries: The Iron Guard, directed at his followers and outlining his views on politics, nation and culture, religion, the Jewish question, and his vision for the Guard. A section his book deals very well with the nationalist position of opposing international workers’ organizations that seek to undermine the nation, while at the same time opposing godless, nationless capitalists pillaging the nation for personal wealth. Nationalism promotes a spirit of national cooperation between the classes for the good of that nation itself (and the good of all), in stark contrast to both the nasty class conflict promoted by the working-class envy of the French and Bolshevik revolutions and the capitalist greed that enriches itself off the hardships of the workers. The second paragraph of the quote accurately describes the leftist co-opting of the white working class, and the third paragraph accurately describes the current ultra-rich CEOs and politicians of the USA. While reading this, keep in mind the current agreement from both sides that legalizing over ten million illegal aliens is a good thing. The Democrats of the second paragraph see them as a political weapon to destroy what remains of the nation, and the Republicans of the third paragraph see them as an opportunity to increase their bottom line by depressing wages further and putting more Americans out of work. We oppose both sides.
It is not enough to defeat Communism. We must also fight for the rights of the workers. They have a right to bread and a fight to honor. We must fight against the oligarchic parties, creating national workers organizations which can gain their rights within the framework of the state and not against the state.
We permit no one to try raising on Romanian soil another flag, save that of our national history. No matter how right the workers’ class may be, we do not tolerate that it rise up against the country or that it make common cause with foreign movements outside our borders. No one will allow that for your bread you lay waste and hand over into the hands of a foreign people of bankers and usurers, everything that for two millenia the sweat of a people of workers and brave ones had saved. Your rights, yes – but within the rights of your people. It is inadmissible that for your right, the historic right of the nation to which you belong be trampled underfoot.
But we will neither admit that in the shelter of the color formulas an oligarchic and tyrannical class may install itself on the backs of the workers of all categories and literally skin them, while continually waving banners through the air for Fatherland – which they do not love; God – which Whom they do not believe; Church – into which they never enter; and Army – which they sent to war empty-handed.
These are realities which cannot be used as false emblems for political fraud in the hands of some immoral prestidigitators.
