I don’t personally follow the modern American gladiatorial games, but fortunately (or unfortunately?) some of my friends do, and they were quick to alert me to the travesty that was Coca-Cola’s 2014 Super Bowl ad. The ad is a candid look at the future vision corporate America has for us. No common language, culture, race, religion, or values – nothing that actually makes a nation a nation; just balkanization on a grand scale, where the only common bond is corporate commercialism. It’s appropriate that this ad contains the first homosexual “family” ever featured in a Super Bowl ad (0:45). Next time that you’re at the grocery store, remember this ad and that RC Cola is just as good as anti-American Coca-Cola. It’s very unfortunate that a product invented by a former Confederate Colonel has been degraded to promoting the destruction of what he fought for. This quote from founding father and the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, John Jay, in his Federalist Paper #2 should put to rest any notion that diversity is what made America.
With equal pleasure I have as often taken notice that Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people — a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs, and who, by their joint counsels, arms, and efforts, fighting side by side throughout a long and bloody war, have nobly established general liberty and independence.
