I find essentially nothing to disagree with in Laura Wood’s latest post on my post. Laura quotes a piece by Lawrence Auster that discusses Jewish paranoia over the American Evangelical Christian Right, objectively the greatest friend of the Jewish people of all time.
If I had to guess why some Rightists are prone to overstatement on the Jewish issue, it would be the bitterness that is caused by both Jewish hypocrisy and power. The hypocrisy, of course, is nearly all Jews’ insistence on the ethno-national rights of Israel (rights I do not dispute) while denying the same rights to white American Christians. Consistent liberals like Jimmy Carter are in some ways easier to tolerate than those who advocate one standard for their nation and another for ours.
This is a particularly bitter pill to swallow when you consider how stridently evangelicals support Israel, support which is hardly ever reciprocated in Jewish circles for the historical American nation. I would even support US aid to Israel if the Jewish community reciprocated: a few billion in foreign aid for our little buddy in the Middle East would be a bargain if Jewish power and influence were mobilized to protect the American nation. The problem is largely in the American Jewish community, not Israel; the Israeli right has at times allied with white Christian ethnonationalists (pre-pandemonium South Africa) against a common enemy, the Soviet-funded Left from Angola to Palestine. I suppose this is a positive aspect of Zionism: Jewish people who must defend their own blood and soil are going to feel more sympathetic to allies facing similar challenges. American Jews, on the other hand, are an insulated elite who have the luxury of entertaining destructive abstractions like universal democracy and open immigration.
If more Jews were consistent ethnonationalists like Lawrence Auster and fewer were non-reciprocating hypocrites like Bill Kristol (who demand open borders in the US), then much of the fuel of anti-Semitism would be removed. Similarly, Jewish people overrepresented in our media and financial worlds could use their positions to preserve the American culture and economy instead of destroying it. Jews would be no more objectionable to white American ethnonationalists than Italians, another large non-native, intelligent immigrant group that, unlike Jews, largely chooses not to engage in culture war against the American majority. In fact, as far as I can tell, Italians are now pretty much part of the American majority; even among my relatives in the rural South, intermarriage with Italians, once a taboo, is a common thing. Italians were once the subject of discrimination and ethnocentrism from the Northern European majority, but their long track record over several generations of being good neighbors and good Americans, along with their European heritage, has won them complete acceptance and assimilation. The Italians have reciprocated by being some of the most patriotic supporters of preserving America’s European identity. You’d struggle to find a single white nationalist anymore who complains about the presence of Italians in the country.
Jews, of course, are more than accepted in America: they are venerated and celebrated, which makes their hostility towards the historical American nation even more inexplicable.
