A bit of an argument has broken out over at Alternative Right on an article reposted from my friend Scott Terry’s blog discussing his experience at the recent American Renaissance conference. The contention centers on Scott’s discussion of one of the speakers at the conference, Jack Donovan, who is an open, practicing homosexual. Scott maintained that while he liked Donovan as a person, he remained committed to the biblical teaching in regards to punishing public homosexuality. This ignited a firestorm from liberals, homosexuals, and liberal homosexuals in the comments section. How one simultaneously promotes the continuation of European peoples amid their demographic decline and pursues a lifestyle of sodomy with other men is beyond me, but there it is. The conversation inevitably morphed from homosexuality in particular to Christianity in general, along with its role in the decline of Western Civilization.
The really interesting portion of the argument starts here, when someone notes how many Christians fail to grasp “that Christianity has been in a state of decay for the better part of three-hundred years and this decline is accelerating,” which is entirely true. The crux of the issue, then, is whether this is due to a fundamental trait of Christianity or to an external disease infecting Christianity – whether because of Christianity or in spite of it. Notice the points on which everyone agrees:
- the decline of Western Civilization began about 300 years ago
- the decline of Western Civilization is accelerating
- this same time period marked the rise of liberalism as an ideology and as the civil religion of the West
- this same time period marked the removal of Christianity from the public sphere and its withering in general influence in society
The only reasonable conclusion I can draw from this is that liberalism, not Christianity, is the root cause and overseer of the decline of Western Civilization. Putting aside the truth of the Christian religion, simple rationality would lead someone to the conclusion that the solution to the decline of Western Civilization, based on those facts, is thus to reject liberalism and embrace the religion which propelled Europe and her people forward and upward for 700 to 1,400 years (depending on where in Europe you were) prior to the rise of liberalism and the start of our decline. But you would be wrong: the real solution, according to the liberal and homosexual factions of the Alternative Right, is actually more liberalism!
[F]or all of its destructiveness on the racial front, liberalism was still an improvement on Christianity, albeit an imperfect improvement because of residual Christian values and escatological [sic] hopes. A race-wise and Jew-wise liberal modernity is far closer to what I want than a revival of Christianity.
That’s right: once we get done destroying the religion that championed healthy racial and ethnic nationalism and replace it with the religion directly responsible for producing the French Revolution, Bolshevism, and cultural Marxism, everything will magically work itself out. Disregard the fact that this replacement process has been ongoing for the past 300 years and has progressively made things worse. This raises a fundamentally important point for us. Despite our many points of agreement with the loose coalition of identitarians, traditionalists, and anti-modernists called the New Right/Alternative Right/Dark Enlightenment, most of that agreement centers on the enemies we oppose and not on our own positive principles. Any fragile alliance with pagans and secularists will end as soon as the modern order collapses and we begin building its replacement, because our visions of the replacement starkly oppose one another. Scott Terry is writing an article on Kinism’s relationship with the Alternative Right, and hopefully he will flesh out the relationship more in that piece.
As a side note, since this accusation was also brought up in the argument over there – I’ve already dealt with the notion that liberalism is somehow a culmination of Christianity. On the contrary, liberalism is a divergence from Christianity.
Liberalism is the disease infecting Western Civilization and responsible for its decline; Christian Kinism is the cure, not more liberalism.
