The University of California, Riverside is all about diversity: racial diversity, gender diversity, “sexual orientation” diversity – they just can’t get enough of it. Did I mention that they are very, very proud of their diversity? And UCR does indeed have one of the most diverse student bodies in the country. Numbers from 2009 put the student body at 8% Black, 40% Asian, 29% Mestizo, 17% White, and 6% other: ironic for a school whose mascot is ethnically Scottish (Highlanders). (On a completely unimportant and yet absolutely hilarious note, their Chancellor’s name is Tim White.) To achieve this, the school has an extremely strong and active affirmative action program which is dedicated to a “policy of nondiscrimination” by openly, actively, and purposely discriminating against whites, males, and heterosexuals.1 For some strange reason, though, this affirmative action is not applied to UCR’s basketball team. Blacks comprise only 8% of the UCR student body, and yet blacks comprise 92% (eleven of the twelve players) of the UCR mens basketball team. See the picture below of the 2011 team.2
Some enterprising conservatives from Exposing Leftists decided to show the idiotic hypocrisy of this untenable position. They took a video camera and a clipboard to UCR to see if they could get members of the student body to sign a petition to get affirmative action applied to the basketball program. Hilarity ensued. Just listen to these dumb leftists try to explain that while they really, really do support affirmative action, sports are…different, because like, you know, that should be based on skill, but academics are…different, you know? Because race shouldn’t matter, except in education and business, because, well, that’s, you know…different. Sports should be based on skill and the best person, but academics is like…different, because of…racism and stuff.
