The Electoral College fulfilled its role in the presidential election process yesterday by officially electing Republican presidential candidate Donald J. Trump to be the next president of the United States. Electors from states across the nation had faced intense pressure to cast their ballots for anyone but Trump. Leaders and activists from both left-wing and #NeverTrump cuckservative camps have been psychologically preparing the American public for an electoral college revolt via scurrilous reports from leftist media and CIA Director John Brennan that the Russian government had altered the results of American voters. In reality, all that the WikiLeaks hacked emails revealed was the corrupt nature of American politics. The Russophobic allegations relied on innuendo and dared not put concrete claims into the public sphere, since such claims could actually be investigated and refuted.
The only real danger of voter manipulation would be for someone to alter votes from one candidate to the other, or to artificially increase or decrease the number of votes a certain candidate received. Such ballot box stuffing is the stuff of real legend both at home and abroad, where dead people routinely vote early and often for Democratic candidates. However, without agents on the scene to alter the votes in this way, it is impossible to rig American elections because (a) the paper ballots cast by 70% of the electorate can’t be altered by a geek in the Kremlin, and (b) even the 30% of American votes cast via electronic voting machines are not connected to the Internet, and thus are not remotely accessible.
As a federal judge ruled last week in Philadelphia, there were at least six grounds which required that a Pennsylvania recount lawsuit be tossed. One of them was the fact that there was no evidence of foreign tampering with the vote.
“Most importantly, there is no credible evidence that any ‘hack’ occurred, and compelling evidence that Pennsylvania’s voting system was not in any way compromised,” U.S. District Judge Paul Diamond wrote.
Recounts in Wisconsin led to a net gain of 131 votes for Trump on top of his previous 22,617-vote margin of victory over Hillary Clinton. In Michigan, U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith ordered a stop to a recount after determining that Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein had not been injured in the election, and therefore had no legal standing to contest the election. In addition, he pointed out that there was no evidence that any actual fraud had taken place on Trump’s behalf.
In previous election cycles, Democrats had alleged that electronic voting machines manufactured by Diebold Election Systems, Inc. could be programmed to alter election results in favor of Republican candidates. A Princeton University study found that the machines could, indeed, be hacked — by people with physical access to the machines.
Just how long is the arm of Vladimir Putin, anyway? Not that long, according to 304 members of the Electoral College, who accepted the Nov. 8 election results as final. As a matter of constitutional law, Donald Trump is now officially in line to be president of the United States.
