Big surprise, the same powers-that-be who gave us innumerable reasons to turn away from the (implicitly white) nationalism Donald Trump spearheaded in 2016 are still churning out unending hit pieces to undermine confidence in Trump’s nationalist, populist administration. Their intent is to get us to quit so the very-mobilized Left can swoop in and retake power in 2018 and 2020, and resume their project of destroying the historic American nation (white Christian people).
As I’ve said before, the Left’s hatred for the Trump phenomenon is not a new thing. They did it during the quasi-conservative George W. Bush years and did it even before then to Ronald Reagan in the 1980s, the Dixiecrats after World War II, and to the non-interventionists in the first half of the twentieth century. All that to say that their predictions of imminent doom are not really worth credence or our attention.
There are three reasons this is so.
1. Any new presidential administration has to get its sea legs. The very nature of a transfer of power means that a whole new crew of department heads, and all their subordinates, need to be interviewed, hired, and acquainted with how things work. Imagine taking the entire corporate leadership of General Electric, or a major university, or a denomination like the Southern Baptist Convention, and simultaneously replacing every single one of those hundreds or thousands of people who have sat in those offices and performed those functions. Even a sports team needs time to adjust to one new key player or one new head coach. An incoming presidential administration goes through that same process on an exponentially larger, and more significant, scale. Hiring decisions for a team, university, or corporation can be publicly scrutinized and have an impact on the performance of their institutions, but every single hiring decision for a presidential administration gets scrutinized by millions of people with an intensity that no other institution encounters. The actions of those newly hired personnel impact hundreds of millions of people, and can lead to poverty and war, or prosperity and peace.
If only the Left’s media lapdogs would keep this in mind when criticizing the Trump Administration for “moving slowly” to hire X number of administration personnel! Moreover, like good Democrats, liberals, socialists, and communists, they assume that government jobs are innately beneficial and necessary. To a numbers-crunching billionaire like Trump, however, they are simply a means to an end, and if their functions can be carried out at lower cost by fewer personnel, or are simply unnecessary functions, he’s going to eliminate those jobs. And he should.
2. The second thing we need to consider is that in our system of government, where the legislature plays a crucial role in implementing new laws and budgets, a new presidential administration must work with and through a totally independent legislature made up of hundreds of elected officials who themselves have thousands of staffers, and an enormous supportive bureaucracy, at their disposal. In other words, the real world of presidential leadership requires the president and his staff to dance with a dancing partner who has a mind of her own. I wish the allegedly pro-woman, anti-”rape culture,” “Coexist” Left would understand that the Trump Administration can’t force its agenda on the Congress! These people presently wrapping themselves in the flag and yelling “muh Constitution!” at every turn fail to appreciate that passing a policy agenda takes cooperation, debate, negotiation, and time. They have criticized the new administration for its “failure” to accomplish all of its myriad policy goals in the first 60 days of its existence. Sixty days! Congress usually accomplishes nothing in 60 days, and they criticize Trump for not simultaneously passing multiple, major reforms in that time. Notably, the most vocal critics are the ones whose feet are most firmly on the legislative brakes holding back the Trump Train’s policy agenda.
To me, this rings as hollow as the “quagmire” the U.S. military allegedly experienced in the first week of Operation Iraqi Freedom, when it — gasp! — had to actually fight the enemy, got shot back at, and lost some trucks and men in battle. Granted, years later OIF turned into a mess. But the 2003 invasion itself was as smooth and successful a military operation as we’re likely to ever see. The Left’s media lapdogs at that time – remember, they hated W. and the flag-waving conservatives who loved him just as they hate Trump and the flag-waving MAGA crowd today – did two things when they saw actual conflict and hardship at the outset of OIF.
One, they used the presence of hardships and sufferings to discourage (aka gaslight or black-pill) those ordinary Americans who supported what they believed was a good policy, and who supported their troops. The Left did this for the same reasons they’re inflicting a thousand cuts on the MAGA crowd today: to get us to quit the field of battle and help their Leftist politicians reclaim power and resume destroying our people.
Two, like most Americans of the last two generations, the Left does not understand that suffering and hardship are a fact of life that does not indicate that what you are doing is wrong or should stop. This is the microwave generation, the “magic pill to make you feel better” generation, the “Your Best Life Now” generation. They have no theology of suffering. To be honest, many of us on the right don’t, either. But at least we have one we can rediscover and lean on. To the white Christian on the right, suffering in the line of duty towards Christ and kin is a badge of honor. It makes us more like Christ, which is itself desirable. It is also inevitable, as the Apostle Paul told us in 2 Timothy 3:12, ”Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” But our countrymen on the Left who have turned away from their European, American, Christian, conservative heritage have no other Heaven than what they can accomplish on this earth. As the Unitarian Universalists say, “Salvation in this life.” True, we can create a happier and more mutually beneficial life now through what we choose to think, say, and do — but that does not give us license to ignore the coming judgment we all must face, and the present reality of God’s created order, and His active involvement in this world through His revealed Word (which the UU’s and their overtly anti-religious fellow travelers flout at every turn). We have a theology that places suffering in its place as a predictable part of life which God uses to shape us for His glory and our benefit. Therefore, we can get in the midst of the fight and see past it to our desired outcome. We don’t have to freak out.
We who can see the end of the fight do have to actually fight. Just because we know that we can win doesn’t mean we’ve already won. We can fight with confidence because we know we’re fighting for the right things. In the case of the Trump Administration, we’re fighting for the survival and prosperity of our people. That is certainly worth fighting and suffering for.
3. The third thing we should consider is that every new presidential administration on the right will get lies, slanders, smears, and outright terrorism thrown at it by the Left. This is what is behind the Left’s Russophobic campaign. Can the Russian government hack the American government? Probably. Do they have a desire to do so, and did they actually do so? I’d honestly be surprised if they didn’t try to, as it is in everyone’s interest to have leverage over potential enemies (and the previous administration, and a thankfully-averted Hillary Clinton administration, were openly antagonistic towards the Russians). We know that the Chinese have often launched cyberattacks on the United States, for example, and that the Obama Administration spied on foreign leaders from friendly nations like Germany. If the Russians hacked us, I would be more concerned that we didn’t have better defenses than how the Russians felt about us. It’s standard diplomatic spying intrigue. It’s not personal, it’s business.
A few noteworthy things, though, about the Left’s “the Russians are coming!” campaign.
One, they don’t act this way about the Chinese, or Israelis, the EU, or any other power. Only Russia. What’s unique about Russia? It’s not that they seriously rival the United States in any way. Their economy, military, even their nuclear arsenals are far smaller than ours. The Russians rank lower than the Chinese and EU in most relevant categories, and yet the Left never cares about spying or sabotage from those quarters. What separates Russia from those other anti-American powers is Russia’s present-day trajectory towards traditional, Christian values. Nothing more, nothing less. The Left doesn’t care about Crimea for its own sake. They care a whole lot, however, about the ability of sodomite propagandists to corrupt Russian youth, and since the Russian government and its allies have freedom to oppose those perverts, the Left hates Russia.
Two, when the Republicans alleged that President Bill Clinton was tied at the hip to the Chinese because of some campaign money that came from China, the Left didn’t care about the presence of foreign funds in American politics. It’s against the law, by the way, to take foreign contributions in American political campaigns. Neither did they care about the very real and obvious fact of massive amounts of foreign money coming into the Clinton Foundation, creating a “pay-to-play” relationship between a likely future president and foreign powers.
But the Left cares intensely about a mythical collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. Not a shred of evidence exists to show that this ever took place. Not a bank record, not a phone conversation, nothing. The fact that Trump has pushed mostly for traditional values which overlap with Russia’s own policies, and that he has pushed for a foreign policy which coincides with Russia’s desire to be part of a multipolar world, are simply happy coincidences, not collusion. There are millions of people across the globe who want these things. At the moment, the leaders of America and Russia share the same policy goals. Is that evidence of their collusion, or is it evidence of their refusal to acquiesce to the Left? Like the masses of their peoples, Trump and Putin are simply pushing back at the Left because the Left is a cancer to every nation it touches, and Trump and Putin don’t want their nations to die. If the same thing were happening with Leftist leaders — say, the U.S. and Russia had leaders who wanted to enact Leftist policies — the Left would say it was a sign of progress sweeping the world. Maybe they’d say it was the result of an unstoppable, historical evolution – like communism. I say what we are seeing now with the leaders of our nations is simply God’s work to save our peoples from disaster and war. Thank God for it. Don’t let the Left use it to make us fear some sinister conspiracy.
To sum up: the Trump Administration has a Herculean task before it. Trump has a more ambitious policy agenda than most other new presidents. He has to make it happen while working with, and sometimes past, a weak-willed, cantankerous, and independent legislative branch, not to mention a very corrupt judicial branch and entrenched Leftist bureaucrats. He has to do it over and against a 24/7 campaign of lies and smears designed to discourage our people, carried out by instant gratification-addicted Leftists in the media who wouldn’t recognize either truth or strength if it bit them.
Trump is neither a loser nor a quitter. He will win, and we will win with him. We may not get everything he or we wanted, but undoubtedly we will gain ground. That is the point. God willing, we will come out of the Trump era much better off than we started it, ready to fight to gain more and more ground until we reach the final victory. So help us God.
