A US warship launches a cruise missile into Libya
Those of you who were paying attention during the 2008 presidential election will remember that one of the main planks of Mr. Obama’s platform was anti-war. He claimed to be opposed to Bush’s wars, affirmed that he would end those wars and not start new ones, and asserted that if John McCain won we would get even more of these wars. Well, his last claim certainly was true, but the other two have proven to be bald-faced lies, as many of us true and conservative traditionalists knew that they were from the start. Not only has Mr. Obama failed to end the Iraq War, expanded the Afghan War, and broadened operations into Pakistan, but now he has inserted the U.S. into the war in Libya. Almost two weeks ago, I wrote that this was an awful idea, and unconstitutional to boot; I maintain that position.
I highly recommend that you read Pat Buchanan’s latest article discussing the Libyan operation:
“The president does not have power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation.”
So said constitutional scholar and Senator Barack Obama in December 2007 – the same man who, this weekend, ordered U.S. air and missile strikes on Libya without any authorization from Congress.
Edit: Oh, and did I mention that this little war is costing the U.S. over $100 million a day?
