The Johannesburg High Court ruled on Wednesday that it was unconstitutional for “public education institutions … [to] promote any one religion to the exclusion of others.”
This mainly affects traditionally Afrikaans public schools, which, until now, could continue with the tradition of daily/weekly Scripture readings and prayer at schools – a legacy of the philosophy of Christian-national education promoted by the Apartheid government. Although actual Bible and theology classes have been stopped for a number of years, individual Christian teachers have been able to promote the Christian faith in their classes, in spite of the thoroughly humanistic curriculum officially adopted in the country.
This has led to an inconsistent form of humanism being promoted in most Afrikaans schools over the past couple of decades – one with a Christian flavour. Now, the court has forced schools to be solely and thoroughly humanistic and Marxist, in line with the country’s public religion, as set out in its constitution.
Naturally, this was done under the veil of ending “religious discrimination” and “religious apartheid” in schools, but as the history of the disestablishment of Christian-national education in public schools elsewhere has taught us, this is merely a veil for the thorough establishment of the Enlightenment religion in the public domain.
Cultural Marxism is a religion that, like Christianity, does not tolerate the worship of other gods. We must understand this is a religious war and treat it as such. The opposing side in this particular court case had appealed to “religious rights” and “constitutional liberty” in their fight against the Marxists, but failed. Let us learn from their mistakes and base our future stands on the crown rights of our King Jesus Christ, in whom alone there is truth and in whose power alone we can achieve victory.
