When Bojidar Marinov, or as he is otherwise known, Bolshevik Molotov, first came on the scene the image he presented to the Theonomic community was one of a man who, recently liberated by the fall of the Iron Curtain, had labored long to bring the works of R. J. Rushdoony and others to his Bulgarian Kinsmen. And by identifying himself with Rushdoonian thought, especially set against the contemporary ascendance of cultural Marxism in the West, everyone expected to see a similar result in his thinking as that which obtained in men like Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn – a conservative Slavic patriot and Christian nationalist.
But what we got was just the opposite.
The man has by turns expressed an ever-more-radical Leftist ideology, literally inverting just about everything Rushdoony emphasized. If you are unfamiliar with either man’s doctrine that may sound like hyperbole, but it really isn’t. Be it Rushdoony’s ardent anti-egalitarianism, his race realism, his affirmation of hereditary sins and relative virtues, the importance of national borders, the pluriformity of Christian cultures, the trustee family, biblical economics over against libertarian economism, cessationism, patriarchal complementarianism, clan-centric society, etc., Marinov preaches the antithesis on every one of these points. Yes, the wayward Bulgarian seems to accord with Rushdoony on virtually nothing and denounces any who agree with Rushdoony on the aforesaid as “pagan dogs bound for liquidation.” Yes, he insists that anyone believing the sorts of things everyone took Rushdoony to have taught prior to Marinov’s radical reinterpretations, is outside the faith and guilty of capital crimes!
Yet he claims to be Rushdoony’s representative and authoritative interpreter! Forget what Rushdoony actually wrote; to understand Rushdoony you must go to his seer – a man consecrated by the word of a self-styled Jewish prophetess – Bojidar. With whom you will be re-educated to understand that Rushdoony’s true positions were not the conservatism and traditionalism everyone always understood them to be, but the inverse, sympatico with the hardest far-left ideologies.
According to Marinov, true Theonomy demands an atomized, post-racial, post-national, post-familial, borderless, libertarian, egalitarian, ecclesiocentric world under a continuing Charismatic Apostolate. Basically, the patent blueprint of every Gnostic cult in history. Whatever Rushdoony said was up, Marinov says is down, right is left, and black is actually white.
In his professed view, the mass invasion of European lands by Muslims is nothing less than the Kingdom come. Plainly, if the historic church thought like Bojidar, we would never have routed the Mohammedans at Tours, Vienna, or Lepanto. Where our Christian fathers univocally took from the template of national Israel in Scripture a sacred mandate to defend faith, folk, and fatherland from incursion by alien creeds and breeds, Bojidar insists Christianity demands abdication to all. Basically, Bojidar’s vision for the West is in lockstep with that of George Soros.
Absurd as it is, he has had a modicum of success by way of the fact that his message keys into all of the cultural Marxist propaganda in which the West is now awash. Because it rings to the ear of the “useful idiot” as reconciling Christianity to the most fervent convictions of the secular world, it feels like a vindication of the doctrine. But his lockstep with the humanist zeitgeist is really a repudiation of his worldview.
The man no doubt has a certain genius for obfuscation and dissembling. But if we admit him to be other than intellectually deficient, we are left with but one serious alternative: apart from being an imbecile, he fits only the classic definition and modus operandi of a Marxist ‘change agent,’ and we are hard-pressed to imagine him for anything else.
